
The Adventureland classes have been specifically designed to support your child’s physical, social, spiritual, and emotional development in a Christian environment. The very fiber of our curriculum is held together by each child embracing God’s love for them as an individual and discovering their purpose in His plan. Academic standards for its conception were adapted from the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Hamilton Southeastern School District.
We believe that with proper guidance and full use of one’s abilities at an early age, sets the foundation for academic excellence. Each teacher has been equipped with developmental checklists and assessments to monitor growth or delays. The overall goals for each child are:
- Assist children in becoming caring, loving, creative, free-thinkers concerned about others and the world around them
- Develop a positive self image and independence by learning self-help skills
- Prepare every child to enter school, ready to succeed

The Infant students are encouraged to make trusting social relationships beyond parental ties by having their basic needs met through: feeding, diapering, comforting, etc. Beginning language skills emerge through imitation of simple conversation, songs, stories, finger plays and rhymes. Exercising of the extremities will be performed to strengthen and support ambulatory efforts, and develop fine motor skills. The infants are offered opportunities for cognitive exploration by exercising their natural instincts to bang, shake, throw, and drop familiar objects. The goals for the students in this class are:
- begin eating table food
- getting from one place to another independently
- feeding themselves finger foods
The Early Preschool A students are beginning to form friendships with their peers. This is the age that informal parallel and make-believe play starts. These children are able to follow simple, one-step instructions and mimic words overheard in conversations. The teachers will build upon the infant babble and encourage the use of one-word sentences stories, simple conversation, music, finger plays, etc. The goals for the students in this class are:
- to begin sitting at a table
- eating table foods
- begin maneuvering eating utensils
- drinking liquids from “sippy” cup
- transition from crib to cot
- transition from several naps to one nap during the day.
- listening to (age-appropriate) stories
- climbing
- running
- expressing needs and emotions
- increasing vocabulary

The students in the Early Preschool B classroom grow and change dramatically. Verbal skills will become more mature through storytelling, songs finger plays, make-believe, etc. The amount of curriculum time is also increased. Each day the class holds a morning circle time with a story and the lesson of the day. This class is designed to:
- begin the process of drinking from regular cups at mealtime
- encourage the transition away from pacifiers, blankets, etc. that often hinder activity and socialization in the classroom.
- Motivate children to use their blossoming language skills
- Allow children to make healthy choices in behavior, and treatment of others
- Develop early writing skills
- Can say their name and identify their peers
- Introduce children to letter, number, color, and shape concepts

The Early Preschool C classroom continues to build upon the concepts introduced in earlier classes. This class is designed for potty training purposes. This is such a milestone for children and parents! Teachers work hard to introduce the potty and help children “graduate” from the toddler status. Children are taken to the potty on a regular schedule and a potty chart is kept for parent’s convenience. This is the time students begin increasing structured learning time in order to focus on getting ready for our three year old pre-school programs. The academic foundations continue to be introduced in this class. The goals for this class are:
- Saying own name and knows names of peers
- Using correct pronouns (I, you, me, we, they)
- Basic color, number, and letter recognition
- Expressing a wide range of emotions
- Easier parental separation
- Tricycle pedaling (introduction)
- Fine Motor Skill Development (coloring, drawing, puzzles)

The Preschool A & B class offers age-appropriate preschool activities, like: reciting the alphabet, color and shape recognition, counting skills and basic number concepts, fine motor coordination. This class emphasizes social skills and self-skills, which are tremendously helpful to children as they begin their journeys through early childhood education and the transition from the "me" stage to the "we" stage. The goals for this class are:
- Begin awareness of time schedules
- Seek answers for “how things work” (causality)
- Master basic rules of grammar
- Beginning writing skills
- Following three-part commands
- Cooperation/teamwork with peers

Children in this age group are ready for more challenges. We help them develop their rapidly expanding intellectual and physical abilities. In this class pre-reading and pre-math skills get more attention. The Preschool C students will fine tune skills like: cutting, math, color recognition, sequencing, and writing skills to prepare them for Pre-K. These students focus on learning the following skills, concepts of basic numbers 1-10 and higher, letters and sounds of the alphabet, shapes and colors, days of the week/months of the year, and learning to write his/her name. The goals for this class are:
- Understanding future and past tenses
- Creates stories
- Printing letters
- Expresses preferences (clothes, colors, friends, etc.)
- Understands prepositions
- “Cause” and “Effect” thinking

We choose to offer a Pre-K program that is specifically designed to prepare your child for Kindergarten. This program focuses on basic readiness skills yet is flexible enough to allow our teachers to support each child’s weaker areas. Children learn the following skills in math: Secondary colors, various geometric shapes, patterning, sorting by colors, positional words, identifying numbers, ordinal numbers, and sets, and the use of a graph. Children are introduced to the how the letters of the alphabet and their sounds work together to create words, and various sight word recognition. In addition to our morning circle time, our Pre-K program spends time throughout the day learning social skills, independence, table manners, and learning to share and play in a cooperative manner. They will have ample opportunities to explore the world around them and seek answers to questions that plague them. The goals for this class are:
- Ability to identify and reproduce large motor skills when instructed
- Peddles and steers a tricycle
- Manipulates scissors, 10-12 piece puzzle, writing and eating utensils with ease
- Masters self-help skills
- Master sequencing, and sorting
- Dictate or attempt to write simple stories
- Interprets illustrations verbally
- Compares and recognizes items that are more, less, or the same in size
- Graphing
- Problem solving
- Awareness of cultural differences
- Awareness of how people positively affect God’s world
- Beginning awareness of life cycles
- Simple discussions
- Awareness of seasonal changes and weather conditions
